Zug 1622 thaler Dav-4633
This specimen was lot 4587 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 925 CHF (about US$1,342 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1622, Zug. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, thaler of 1622, Zug mint. Good Very Fine.)"
The canton of Zug was not a prolific issuer of coinage and most of its issues were minors such as dreikreuzer and dickens. This thaler of 1621-22, tho not common, is the only thaler issued by this canton not extremely rare. The canton also issued Dav-4631, with the date in the obverse legend, in 1621.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: silver, this specimen 28.28 g.
