Sincona sale 81, lot 6205

This specimen was lot 6205 in Sincona sale 81 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$899 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zug | Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1621, Zug. Good very fine." The canton of Zug was not a prolific issuer of coinage and most of its issues were minors such as dreikreuzer and dickens. This thaler of 1621-22, tho not common, is the only thaler issued by this canton not extremely rare. The canton also issued Dav-4631, with the date in the obverse legend, in 1621.
