Sincona sale 102, lot 5591

This specimen was lot 5591 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,750 CHF (about US$4,145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Zug. Stadt und Kanton. Dicken 1622, Zug. Sehr selten. Fast sehr schön. Typische Kipperprägung von stark verbrauchten Stempeln. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, dicken of 1622. kipper type struck with heavily worn dies. Very rare, About Very Fine)"

This type was struck 1609-22. St. Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians, is featured on the obverse. The reverse motto, "CVM·HIS·QVI·OD[ERT]·PACE[M]· ERAM·PACI[FICVS]", translates to, "I remained peaceful to those who hated the peace." A dicken was twenty-four kreuzer or two-fifths gulden.
