Sincona sale 95, lot 4307

This specimen was lot 4307 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Dicken 1622, Luzern. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Stempelbruch in der Rückseitenumschrift. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, dicken of 1622, Luzern mint. Rare, About Extremely Fine, Die break in reverse legend.)"

This type was struck 1617-22 in many varieties. At this time, one thaler made four dicken or 72 kreuzer. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
