This specimen was lot 24796 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hesse-Cassel. Wilhelm V Taler 1637-GK, AU55 NGC. An incredibly illustrative piece depicting Cassel under attack during the Thirty-Year's War, emerging sun rays above with Hebrew 'JEHOVAH' shining down onto the tumultuous cityscape. Appealing, gray patina with underlying luster and bold details." Davenport lists 13 different thalers (Dav-6757, Dav-6759, -6760, -6761, -6762, Dav-6763, Dav-A6764, Dav-6765, Dav-6766, Dav-6770, -6771, Dav-6772, -6773, not counting double thalers) from Hesse-Cassel for 1637. Hesse-Cassel was promoted to an Electorate in 1803 and was annexed by Prussia in 1866.
