This specimen was lot 8232 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 8 Reales, 1612-S D. Seville Mint. Philip III. NGC MS-62. Pop: 1, the only Uncirculated example graded by NGC. An impressively heavy coin with sharp detail on the centers but the typical weakness in the peripheries. The mintmark and assayer letter are partially visible, and the surfaces are toned a light gray throughout." This cob was issued from Seville 1611-21. Assayer B and D are both recorded for 1612. Few exist in better than Very Fine. Similar cobs were produced at Madrid, Valladolid, Toledo and Segovia. Segovia also issued milled 8 reales.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.
