Mexico 1845-Go PM 4 escudos

Sincona sale 4, lot 6020

This specimen was lot 6020 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$998 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO Republic 4 Escudos 1845, Guanajuato. Assayer PM. Extremely fine." Guanajuato struck this type 1829-63, which is also known from the Mexico City, Zacatecas, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Guadalupe y Calvo, Culiacan and Durango mints. Assayer PM is recorded for 1842-48 but only 1845 and 1847 are listed for the four escudos. Type collectors must usually settle for a specimen from Mexico City or Guanajuato; the other mints are very rare. Long^[2] notes this date as "extremely rare."
