This specimen was part of lot 628 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Georg II Wilhelm (1648-65). Dav-6527; KM-52.2. Toned [and] George II August (George II of England) (1727-60). Toned." This type is listed for 1727-49 and is reasonably common. It closely resembles the "leaping stallion" thalers of his predecessor George I (Dav-2073). The elector of Hannover was also king of England. Other thalers (Dav-2089, Dav-2095, Dav-2097) exist for 1730.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Welter, 2560; Dav-2086, KM 194.1.
