from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 21203
Mexico SB118-21203r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21203 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1865-ZsMO. NGC EF-45. RARE date. Richard Long notes, 'We know of an AU, a softly struck XF-AU, and a few others.' Second finest of only 2 examples graded at NGC. This example is a little soft on the obverse but it is problem free with some luster remaining." Assayer MO (1855-60, 1863-65) is listed as slightly more common than assayer VL (1860-66).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-75; KM-383.11.
