Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 619
Brunswick-W Stacks Jan15-619r.jpg

This specimen was lot 619 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1671. Rudolf August (1666-1704). NGC MS-64. Well struck on lustrous metal, with nearly every hair of bust defined. With hardly any contact marks which is surprising given the large amount of open space in the design. Old envelope toning with amber and blue highlights near periphery. Exceptional quality. From the Rockaway Collection." This type of 1671, struck in several variations, is not as common as "wild man" thalers such as Dav-6343 but it is not rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 513.1, Dav-6383.
