Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1673-IPE thaler Dav-6379
This specimen was lot 535 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €440 (about US$593 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Rudolf August, 1666-1685. Reichstaler 1673, Zellerfeld. R Kl. Randfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (duchies of Brunswick-Luneburg and Brunswick Wolfenbuttel, Rudolf Augustus, 1666-85, thaler of 1673, Zellerfeld mint. Scarce, edge defects, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This is another in the long series of "wild man" thalers struck in Brunswick-Luneburg and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This one is recorded for 1667-83 and is slightly scarce.
