Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41267

This specimen was lot 41267 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1667-HS. Zellerfeld Mint. Rudolph August. PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Coin Galleries (5/1984) Lot # 446." This type was struck 1666-67 and 1670-74 and is the most available for this year. The obverse legend states, "AUGUSTUS DUX". Other thalers for 1667 include Dav-6344 ("AUGUSTUS HERTZOG", wild man reverse) and Dav-6378 ("AUGUSTUS DG DUX", wild man reverse).
