Mexico 1870-Ho PR 8 reales

This specimen was lot 6360 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $276. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Hermosillo. 8 Reales, 1870-PR. Vertical 'O' in mint mark. VERY SCARCE variety. Ex: Ponterio Auction #146, lot #518 where it hammered for $325. Nice strike, toned ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." The Hermosillo mint struck eight reales 1861-95 and this date is quite a bit scarcer than the preceding 1868-Ho or 1869-Ho. A few eight reales are known from the 1830's but they were probably illegal issues as the mint was not then authorized to strike silver.
