Goldberg sale 93, lot 2426
Mexico G93-2426r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2426 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $317.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico: Zacatecas. 1/2 Real, 1811 (Zacatecas) NGC VF. War of Independence issue. LVO- Royal arms. NGC graded Very Fine, Details (Damaged)." This specimen is one of a series minted 1811 in Zacatecas during the reign of Ferdinand VII. The mounting anarchy unleashed during the War of Independence forced the royal authorities to open branch mints, such as Zacatecas, Guanajuato and Durango. This design was also used for one real, two reales and eight reales issues. The date is somewhat scarce and rare well struck. The Zacatecas mint closed in 1905.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-15065, KM-181.
