Sincona sale 98, lot 4694

This specimen was lot 4694 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$508 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1756, Zürich. Stadtansicht. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1756, Zürich mint, city view. About Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1720-26, 1729, 1732-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767-68. Half thalers with a motto reverse (KM 145) were struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-61, 1767-68, so most years have both types. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.
