Sincona sale 95, lot 4699

This specimen was lot 4699 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1758, Zürich. Stadtansicht. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1758, Zürich mint, city view. About Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1720-26, 1729, 1732-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767-68. Half thalers with a motto reverse (KM 145) were struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-61, 1767-68, so most years have both types. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.
