Sincona sale 18, lot 3693

This specimen was lot 3693 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 275 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler 1758. Spruch. Fast vorzüglich. (canton of Zürich, thaler of 1758, choice extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in Zurich 1736-68 and was one of a series of thalers struck throughout the eighteenth century. Many of the later issues were "city view" thalers. The obverse legend, "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE," means "coin of the Republic of Zurich."
