Zurich 1761 thaler Dav-1789
This specimen was lot 3132 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$600 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND, Stadt und Kanton Zürich, Taler 1761. Spruch. Vorzüglich-FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (canton of Zürich, thaler of 1761. Extremely fine-uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
This type was struck in Zurich 1736-68 and was one of a series of thalers struck throughout the eighteenth century. Many of the later issues were "city view" thalers. The obverse legend, "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE," means "coin of the Republic of Zurich."
