Sincona sale 91, lot 3700

This specimen was lot 3700 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$795 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1756/3, Zürich. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1753 geändert. Spruch. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1756, Zürich mint, 1756/3 overdate, motto reverse. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1720-26, 1729, 1732-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767-68. Half thalers with a motto reverse (KM 145) were struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-61, 1767-68, so most years have both types. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.13 g, silver, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 13.52 g.
