Zurich 1724 1/2 thaler KM-146
This specimen was lot 4668 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$693 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1724, Zürich. Stadtansicht. Fast vorzüglich. Dunkle Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1724, Zürich mint, city view. About Extremely Fine, Dark toning.)"
This type was struck 1720-26, 1729, 1732-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767-68. Half thalers with a motto reverse (KM 145) were struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-61, 1767-68, so most years have both types. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.
Record mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.13 g, silver, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 13.62 g.
