Sincona sale 98, lot 4656

This specimen was lot 4656 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$943 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1723, Zürich. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1723, Zürich mint. Rare in this condition, Extremely Fine, Attractively toned.)"

This type was struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61, 1767-68 along with a half thaler with a city view reverse. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the thaler was raised from 72 schilling to 80 schilling.
