Sincona Auction 103, lot 1604

This specimen was lot 1604 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$6,477 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Vierteldukat 1723/2, Zürich. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1722 geändert. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Gewellt. (Switzerland, city of Zürich, quarter ducat of 1723, Zürich mint, 1723/2 overdate. Very rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Wavy flan.)"

This type was struck 1718-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767 and is among the more available gold coins from this canton. It accompanied half ducats (Fr-487a), ducats (Fr-486a) and double ducats (Fr-485a).

Specification: 0.875 g, .979 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW, this specimen 0.85 g.
