Sincona sale 101, lot 4345

This specimen was lot 4345 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 170 CHF (about US$256 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton. Halbtaler 1722, Zürich. Stadtansicht. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half thaler of 1722, Zürich mint, city view. Good Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1720-29, 1732-36, 1739-48, 1751-53, 1756-61, 1767-68. The SCWC prices all the dates pretty much the same. Half thalers with a motto reverse (KM 145) were struck 1723-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-61, 1767-68, so most years have both types. They are about equally common but the city view obtains a premium for the more interesting design.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.13 g, silver, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 13.56 g.

Catalog reference: KM 146, D.T. 436c, HMZ 2-1165m.
