Sincona sale 80, lot 5317

This specimen was lot 5317 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 20,000 CHF (about US$23,970 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1716, Zürich. Very rare. About uncirculated. Magnificent condition." This scarce type was struck 1707-16 along with quarter (Fr-488), half (Fr-487a) and single ducats (Fr-486a). In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
