Zurich 1719 2 ducats Fr-488a
This specimen was lot 3845 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 2,600 (about US$3,258 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "[Zurich.] Doppeldukat 1719. Auf die 2. Säkularfeier der Reformation. Brustbild Zwinglis nach links. Rv. Altar mit offener Bibel unter strahlender Sonne. Fast FDC. (Double ducat of 1719, on the bicentennial of the reformation; obverse: bust of Zwingli to left; Reverse: altar supporting an open bible under the shining sun; choice uncirculated.)" The SCWC does not include this type, probably because of its medallic nature.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7 g, .979 fine gold; this specimen is 6.93 g.
Catalog reference: Fr-488a. Friedberg also assigned Fr-488a to a quarter ducat; he probably intended this commemorative to be Fr-488b.
