Zurich 1719 1/4 ducat Fr-488a
This specimen was lot 5645 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,750 CHF (about US$4,145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ. Zürich. Stadt und Kanton. Vierteldukat 1719/8, Zürich. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1718 geändert. Selten. Gewellt. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, quarter ducat of 1719, Zürich mint, 1719/8 overdate. Rare, Wavy flan, Good Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1718-67 along with a half (Fr-488a), single (Fr-486a) and double ducat (Fr-485a). Overdates are common, as shown here. In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
