This proof was struck for the newly formed republic of Yemen in 1969 as a one year only issue. It was lot 40403 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012) where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description[1] reads: "YEMEN. 20 Riyals, 1969. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo." Many of these obscure NCLT commemoratives were ignored until recently and many sold at bullion or below.

Specification: 19.6 g, 0.900 fine gold.
