This proof was struck for the newly formed republic of Yemen in 1969 as a one year only issue. It was lot 40402 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012) where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description reads: "YEMEN. 35 Riyals, 1969. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo." Despite the auction catalog description, this is a thirty riyals, not a thirty-five riyals. Many of these obscure NCLT commemoratives were ignored until recently and many sold at bullion or below.
