This proof was struck for the newly formed republic of Yemen in 1969 as a one year only issue. The subject is the Qadhi Mohammed Mahmud Azzubairi Memorial. This specimen was lot 22832 in Heritage sale 3005 (Long Beach, May 2009) where it sold for $2,530. the catalog description[1] reads: "Arab Republic gold 50 Riyals 1969, choice cameo Proof, gold striking of the silver 50 Riyals, a handsome coin depicting a male lion. Rarely encountered in the market. From the Village Coin Estate Collection."

Specification: 49.0 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.418 oz AGW.
