This specimen was lot 25085 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "YEMEN. 20 Riyals, 1969. NGC PROOF-65. Apollo 11 moon landing. From a mintage of only 1,100 pieces." Many of these obscure NCLT commemoratives were ignored until recently and many sold at bullion or below. The crude die-work suggests the product of a small private mint.
Recorded mintage: 1,100.
Specification: 19.6 g, 0.900 fine gold.
Catalog reference: Fr-13; KM-8.
