This proof was struck for the newly formed republic of Yemen in 1969 as a one year only issue. The subject is the Qadhi Mohammed Mahmud Azzubairi Memorial.

It was lot 22831, auctioned by Heritage Auctions in the 2009 May Long Beach, CA Signature World & Ancient Coin Auction #3005 on May 29, 2009, for $2300. The catalog description reads:

'Arab Republic gold 2 Riyals 1969, choice cameo Proof, stunningly beautiful coin featuring a roaring lion, gold striking of the silver 2 Riyals. Rare with a mintage of 100. From the Village Coin Estate Collection.'

Specification: 42.29 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.2238 oz AGW.
