The Rassids were a group belonging to the Zaidiyyah branch of Shia Islam. They exerted control over portions of Yemen, at times becoming the dominant political force.

The specimen shown was lot 266 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it sold for US$295. The catalog description reads[1]:

"RASSID: al-Mutawakkil Ahmad, 1226-1258, AR dirham, Zufar, AH643, also citing the previous ruler al-Mansur, as always, with Ahmad's name in the obverse marginal text, lovely strike, choice VF, RRR."

Recorded mintage: unknown.
