The Rasulids were a dynasty which tooks its name from Rasul, who was a Turkoman official of the Abbasids. However, the first ruler of the dynasty was Rasul’s grandson Umar I, whose rule followed the collapse of the Ayyubid dynasty (centered in Egypt and Syria).
The specimen shown is a silver one dirham from the ruler Mansur Nuraddin 'Umar bin Samasaddin Ali, who ruled 1236-1249 AD. It is dated AH 647, or about 1249 AD, and minted in Sa'ana. 'Umar was the first ruler of the Rasulid dynasty.
