The Rasulids were a dynasty which tooks its name from Rasul, who was a Turkoman official of the Abbasids. However, the first ruler of the dynasty was Rasul’s grandson Umar I, whose rule followed the collapse of the Ayyubid dynasty (centered in Egypt and Syria).

The specimen shown is a silver one dirham from the ruler al-Mudhaffar shams Samsaddin Yusuf bin 'Umar, who ruled 1249-1295 AD. It is dated AH 651, or about 1253 AD, and minted in Zabid. Yusuf was the son of the first Rasulid ruler, 'Umar.
