The Rasulids were a dynasty which tooks its name from Rasul, who was a Turkoman official of the Abbasids. However, the first ruler of the dynasty was Rasul’s grandson Umar I, whose rule followed the collapse of the Ayyubid dynasty (centered in Egypt and Syria).

The specimen shown is a silver 1 dirham from the ruler al-Mujahid Sayf al-Islam Ali, who ruled 1321-1363 AD. It is dated AH 750, or about 1349 AD, and minted in Zabid. The reverse shows an image of a bird.
