The Rassids were a group belonging to the Zaidiyyah branch of Shia Islam. They exerted control over portions of Yemen, at times becoming the dominant political force.

The specimen shown was lot 265 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description reads[1]:

"RASSID: al-Nasir, 913-937, AR ½ dirham (1.42g), Sa'da, ND, A-1068var, exactly the same inscriptions as on the common sudaysi of this ruler, both in fields & margins, with annulets in outer margins on both sides, slightly double-struck on reverse, probably ex-mount, About VF, RRR. Unreported, and probably unique."
