Wurttemberg 1806 thaler Dav-937
This specimen was lot 4507 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,160 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. Konv.-Taler 1806. Königstaler. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Als Verbündeter Napoleons wurde Herzog Friedrich II. am 29. April 1803 Kurfürst. Im Frieden von Preßburg erhielt Württemberg umfangreichen Gebietszuwachs. Am 30. Dezember 1805 wurde Württemberg zum Königreich erhoben. Friedrich ließ seinen neuen Titel umgehend auf den Münzen anbringen. Der württembergische Königstaler von 1806 zählt zu den großen Raritäten unter den württembergischen Münzen und zu den begehrtesten Prägungen des 19. Jahrhunderts. (Germany, kingdom of Wurttemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, convention thaler of 1806, "king's" thaler. Very rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine. As an ally of Napoleon, Duke Friedrich II became Elector on April 29, 1803. In the Peace of Bratislava, Württemberg received extensive territorial gains. On December 30, 1805 Württemberg was raised to the status of kingdom. Friedrich immediately had his new title engraved on the coins. The royal thaler from 1806 is one of the great rarities among the Württemberg coins and one of the most sought-after coins from the 19th century.)"
