Künker Auction 440, lot 3527

This specimen was lot 3527 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. Kreuzer 1805. Prachtexemplar. Stempelglanz. Erworben im Juni 1989 aus dem Lager der BW-Bank, Stuttgart. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, kreuzer of 1805. Choice example, uncirculated.)"

This scarce type was struck 1805 only. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
