Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75059
SB925-75059r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75059 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. 6 Kreuzer, 1806. Wurttemberg Mint. Friedrich I. PCGS MS-62. Type with banner and antlers in shield." The duke of Württemberg was promoted by Napoleon to elector in 1803 and then king in 1806. Napoleon also doubled the duke's territory. This is one of the first coins issued by Frederick after that glorious event. This example realized one quarter of the catalog value. The superseding type (KM 495) had modified arms (antlers on the left, lions on the right) and was struck until 1814. Confusingly, while Numista shows the correct photo for KM 495, the SCWC photo for KM 495 actually shows KM 493.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.

Specification: 2.7 g, 0.333 fine silver, 20 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM-493.
