Wurttemberg 1809 thaler Dav-939
This specimen was lot 4509 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,973 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. Konv.-Taler 1809. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Wurttemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, convention thaler of 1809. Very rare, attractive example, minor edge nicks, very fine.)"
This is the second thaler issued by Frederick after his promotion to king. It comes with and without the engraver's initials below the bust; the without initials variety is shown here. It is rare, as are all the thalers until 1825.
