Steve Album sale 55, lot 3150

This specimen was lot 3150 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2005, Famous Families of Ukraine Series – Symyrenko Family, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2005, including KM 358, KM 367, KM 370, KM 371, KM 372, KM 373, KM 381 and KM 382 (shown here), all struck to the same module. This NCLT reverted to sterling silver. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven. Wikipedia comments, "The Symyrenko family (Ukrainian: Симиренко, plural form Ukrainian: Симиренки, romanized: Symyrenky) was a Ukrainian industrial and business family prominent under the late Cossack Hetmanate, the Russian Empire and the early Soviet Union. The Symyrenkos were among Ukraine's most powerful landed families, rising to dominate the sugar beet industry by the Russian Revolution. They are also known for their patronage of Ukrainian culture, including the financial support they provided to writer and poet Taras Shevchenko and Kievskaia starina."
