Ukraine 2004 2 hryvni KM-227
This specimen was lot 3309 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: AV 2 hryvni, 2004, White Stork, in original box with certificate of authenticity, struck in 0.9999 gold, authorized mintage of only 10,000 pieces, Choice Proof, S." The regime used this denomination for numerous commemoratives in 2004 but this is the only one struck in gold. The white stork (Ciconia ciconia) is common in Europe and the Near East, wintering in Africa. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the Karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.
