Steve Album sale 55, lot 994

This specimen was lot 994 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 20 hryven, 2005, Airplanes of Ukraine Series -'Ruslan' AN-124 Aircraft, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, contains two troy ounces of pure silver, Proof. The Antonov An-124 'Ruslan' is a large, strategic airlift, four-engine aircraft that was designed in the 1980s by the Antonov design bureau in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union (USSR)." The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the Karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven. Wikipedia states 57 were built 1982-2004, of which five have been wrecked in accidents. With the destruction of the AN-225 in 2022, the AN-124 is now the world's largest aircraft.
