This specimen was lot 4846 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Confederation, 5 Rappen 1887 B. Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (confederation of Switzerland, five rappen of 1887, Bern mint. Rare date. Uncirculated. Magnificent condition.)"
The SCWC records the 1896 as a key date for the one, two and five rappen. The 1887 is not the key but it is rare. The type was struck 1879-1980 without change.
Recorded mintage: 500,000.
Specification: 2 g, copper-nickel, 17.15 mm diameter; this specimen is 2.00 g.
