Sincona sale 83, lot 5242

This specimen was lot 5242 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$268 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 20 Rappen 1887 B, Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. (Rare date.) PCGS MS63." This type was struck 1881-2018 with no change in design. It was converted from nickel to copper-nickel in 1939. The 1887 is scarce but not rare. This example realized about half the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 4 g, nickel, 21.05 mm diameter.
