Switzerland 1889-B rappen

Sincona sale 83, lot 5249

This specimen was lot 5249 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$161 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 1 Rappen 1889 B, Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. (Rare date). NGC MS62 BN." This type was struck at the Bern mint 1902-41. This is a scarce date but this example realized less than half the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 1.5 g, bronze, 16 mm diameter.
