Switzerland 1872-B rappen

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 76377

This specimen was lot 76377 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Rappen, 1872-B. Bern Mint. PCGS MS-65 Red Brown." This type was introduced in 1850 and struck without change until 1900. A similar subtype (KM 3.2) was struck 1902-41. The SCWC states the later variety has a slimmer cross and value but Numista states this change was implemented earlier, about 1891.

Recorded mintage: 2,080,000.

Specification: 1.5 g, bronze, 16 mm diameter, plain edge.
