Sincona sale 101, lot 4423

This specimen was lot 4423 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$452 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Eidgenossenschaft, 1 Rappen 1870 B, Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (confederation of Switzerland, one rappen of 1870, Bern mint. Rare date. NGC MS64 BN, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was introduced in 1850 and struck without change until 1900. A similar subtype (KM 3.2) was struck 1902-41. The SCWC states the later variety has a slimmer cross and value but Numista states this change was implemented earlier, about 1891.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 1.5 g, bronze, 16 mm diameter, plain edge.
