Sincona sale 83, lot 5241

This specimen was lot 5241 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$669 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 1 Franken 1887 B, Bern. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC SP62. Erstabschlag. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Very rare in this condition, Specimen strike, Finest certified by NGC.)" This type was struck 1875-1968. The Specimens (the Swiss version of proofs) have a substantial catalog value but this example realized less than half that.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 + specimens.

Specification: 5 g, 0.835 fine silver, .134 troy oz ASW, 23.2 mm diameter, reeded edge.
