Spain 1813-C CJ 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 32340 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain: Ferdinand VII gold 2 Escudos 1813 C-CJ MS63+ NGC, Cadiz mint. The single highest certified specimen of this type by NGC, the next highest an AU55. A true choice coin, well-struck (if slightly off-center) with abundant silky luster and only minor contact marks in the fields. An outstanding example for the hard-to-please collector of Spanish coinage." This type was issued at Cadiz 1811-14 while the rest of Spain was under Frnch occupation. Unlike the two escudos of the Latin American mints, the two escudos of Spain are fairly common. Assayer CJ is listed for 1813-14. He may be the same person as the CJ listed for Seville for 1815-21.
